Original Trilogy (O.T.) Star Wars T-shirts

Rather than write a separate post about each of these I've decided to clump them together.

I've had a quite a few Star Wars t-shirts over the years and I've got plenty of wear out of them too. Some are long gone, a few I still wear*, and this selection here have been retired but kept. 

*I still get new ones given to me- It's an easy gift idea for birthdays!

I should really add my other Star Wars t-shirts on for completion. The next one about to retire features Minnie Mouse as Princess Leia asking Mickey Mouse dressed as Stormtrooper Luke "Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?" The other more recent t-shirts feature an X-Wing fighter, and another one with the "Dadalorian" (i.e. a father's day shirt with Mando with Grogu, however, that last one doesn't fit with the O.T. aspect of this post.)

Taking the Mickey (Mouse)

I still get the occasional piece of Star Wars memorabilia as gifts, mainly from my wife and kids. Being quite keen on Disney too, the cross-over of the two crops up from time to time.

For example, here's a couple of vinylmation dolls from Episode 7, The Force Awakens.

Even before Disney bought Lucasfilm and started diluting the franchise, they were merchandising stuff via their theme parks. Remember the Star Tours ride vehicle? Well, here's the mug for the same ride, which I picked up in the 1990s. 

And there were action figures too. For example, Stich as Emperor Palpatine and Minnie Mouse and Princess Leia Organa. I bought these to keep nice, though I did give one of my kids his own Minnie Star Wars dolls. I think Minnie as Leis got buried in the back garden when he was playing one day, and Minnie as Queen Amidala is somehwere in his old toy cupboard.

Another nice Disney piece I have is this picture of Mickey and Minnie as Luke and Leia on Speeder Bikes.

Star Tours Starspeeder 3000

From the moment I saw it (whilst holidaying in Florida) I just had to have this cool Star Wars toy.

The Starspeeder 3000 was the ride vehicle on the Star Wars Star Tours ride at Disney-MGM Studios (now called Disney's Hollywood Studios). This simulation attraction has been at the Florida theme park since 1989, though in 2010 the ride was changed to "Star Tours - The Adventures Continue", which brought about a replacement of the Starspeeder. Out went the Starspeeder 3000 to be replace by the Starspeeder 1000.

Key features of the toy :-

• R2-D2 SFX
• Captain Rex Voice
• Shuttle Engine Sounds
• Light Speed Sound Effect
• Working Cabin Lights & Doors

I think I got this in 2000 and it has never been out of it's box. The good thing is you can press R2-D2 through a try-me-type hole in the packaging.

I've been on both versions of the ride quite a few times (often going straight back on if the queue was short!)

You might need to turn up the volume up to hear it, but it still works! You may also hear the sound of my kids playing snooker in the background.....
